Mapston Receives Scholarship

Aaron Mapston a senior at Denton High School received two scholarships the Fergus/Petroleum county 4-H leader’s Council scholarship receiving $200 dollars and the Fergus/Petroleum county Open Box Ranch 4-H scholarship receiving $250 dollars.

Following graduation Aaron plans to attend Carroll College in Helena and peruse a degree in Pharmacy.

Junior/Senior Banquet Approaching

Program and Plans Coming Together

DENTON - The Denton High School Junior/Senior Banquet is set for Saturday, May 10 at 6:00 p.m. at the Denton Town Hall.  The banquet is sponsored by the junior class.  The dinner will be roast beef and served by members of the sophomore class.

Activities of the night include the senior prophecies prepared by the junior class and the seniors' wills.

The guest speaker is to be announced.

Invitations have been sent to Denton School staff and the families of the senior and junior classes.  Those attending need to RSVP to junior class advisors Mrs. Lori Conard or Mr. Mike Metcalfe at the school by Thursday, May 1.

Senior Earns Robert C. Byrd Honor Scholarship

Plovanic Wins Scholarship

DENTON - Jacob Plovanic, one of Denton High School’s outstanding seniors, has been selected a recipient of a Robert C. Byrd Honor Scholarship.

A total of 152 Montana students applied for the scholarship with only 23 scholarships being awarded.  Each student granted a scholarship will receive $1,500 for the 2003-04 school year. This amount is based on the availability of funds Montana receives from the Department of Education. 

If the students receiving the scholarships maintain their eligibility they can renew the scholarship for three more years.  Congratulations Jacob!

School Play Airline Wednesday

One of the Upcoming school Plays is Airline set for April 23

DENTON – "I don’t think it could be a real weapon Minerva, that’s against federal regulations!!" There is a play coming up at Denton School. The previous line is from the play, Airline.

The airline Go Bananas is a wacky airline that does not have security checks and everybody thinks it impossible for someone to consider bringing a weapon on board a plane.

It is going to be performed by Denton High School and Junior High students. It is a goofy comedy about an airline called Go Bananas that is really wacky.  It is full of interesting characters and many plots. It will be performed in the Denton School Auditorium at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2003. 

Mark your calendars and be sure to be in your Airline seat.

LEWISTOWN - The Denton Combined Track Meet in Lewistown this past Saturday, April 12, 2003, went very well for the Trojans. The high school boys earned 69.5 points and placed fourth.  The high school girls scored  49.5 points to finish in fifth place.

Madam’s Been Murdered, Tea Will Be Late is set for May 8 and 9

DENTON -- It is stormy evening at Houndstooth Manor with a serial murderer and ghost on the loose. All the paying guests sit uneasily wondering who will be the next one to be murdered. So sets the tone for the play Madam’s Been Murdered, Tea Will Be Late presented by Denton High School which will be performed May 8 and 9 at 8:00 p.m. at the Denton High School auditorium. If you are looking for some quality acting and some comedy come see this play full of excitement, laughs, mystery, and even murder.

Yearbook Advertisement Sales Big Success

Students travel to Lewistown

LEWISTOWN -- The yearbook advertisement sales went well last week. They worked hard to sell advertisements in Lewistown. The following yearbook member participated in selling advertisements were Crystle Gremaux, Danielle Musick, Tiffany Wickens, Matt Reid, Casie Spainhower, Laura Moore, Tarayn Lahr, Shanda Romero, Gina Donaldson, Jayleen Lahr, Tricia Coppedge, Nikki Poser, Dane Newcomb, Mark Buckentin. At noon they all went up to Subway and ate a healthy and delicious lunch. Then after lunch went right back out and sold more advertisements.

We all want to thank Mr. Eric Swenson for the lunch and Mr. Eric Morse for being an awesome bus drive for taking us places all day. We would also like to thank them for putting up with Laura Moore and Dane Newcomb for the whole day.

Denton Attends State Science Fair

Stupendous Results at State Science Fair

DENTON -- Sunday, the Denton Science Fair team traveled to Missoula, Montana for the State Science Fair. The State Science Fair officially began Monday April 7. It was held at the college in the Adams center. In order to attend the State competition you must receive a blue ribbon at Regional. Approximately 400 junior high exhibits and attended the fair and 200 high school exhibits.

Judging lasts about 4 hours. During this period competitors will speak to at least two judges. Only the competitors and the judges were allowed in during this time. Public viewing was held Monday night. This is when students find out what ribbon they received. Tuesday morning the awards ceremony is held for any special awards that are given out.

Every year the Denton science fair participants have improved immensely! They will continue their hard work for many more years to come. Congratulations to all those who attended State!

Fourth Annual BPA Raffle Underway

Chapter Members Work to Raise Their Funds

The 4th Annual Business Professionals of America Raffle is now underway. You can buy tickets from any BPA member. Ticket prices are: 1 ticket for $5.00 or 3 tickets for $10.00.

There are six prizes that are going to be drawn for the raffle:

  • 1st Prize, Billings—It includes a $30 gift certificate at the Olive Garden, Movie Passes, and a night for two at the Holiday Inn Grand
  • 2nd Prize, Great Falls—It includes a $30 gift certificate at the 3-D International, Movie Passes, and a night for two at the Heritage Inn
  • 3rd Prize, also Great Falls—It includes a $30 gift certificate at Applebee’s and Movie Passes
  • 4th Prize, Lewistown—It includes a $50 gift certificate at the Bar 19
  • 5th Prize, also Lewistown—It includes a $30 gift certificate at the Whole Famdamily
  • 6th Prize, Denton—It includes a gift certificate at Marv’s Pub and Grill

All proceeds from the raffle go towards paying for members to attend the Montana Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference in Billings, March 2-4, 2003, and the National Leadership Conferences in Dallas, Texas, April 29-May 4, 2003.

Student Ensembles at District Music Festivals

Six Students Competed in Vocal & Instrumental

Tuesday, April 8, 2003

Lewistown - Six student musicians went to Lewistown on April 5, 2003, to participate in the District 8 Music Festival. Kevin Melton, Brenton Melton, Tyler Bokma, Emily Linker, and Zach Plovanic played their instruments in solos or duets during Saturday's events. Additionally, Stacy Gilkey performed a vocal solo.

Zach's solo and Emily's solo received ratings of II. Kevin and Brenton's duet received a I.  Brenton, Stacy and Tyler performed solos that earned them a rating of I. 

Kevin, Brenton, Tyler, and Stacy all qualified for the State Music Festival in Billings at Billings Skyview High School May 2 & 3, 2003.

Denton FFA Attends State Convention

Billings - The 2003  Montana FFA Convention this year took place in Billings, April 2-5, 2003. It was very insightful to everyone that attended. Seven members from the Denton chapter attended.  The competitions were very competitive and difficult.

Crystle Gremaux from the Denton FFA chapter was one of those that attended the conference. She thought watching the new officers take their places, the motivational speakers, and hanging out with her own chapter was the most fun. "Everyone learned a lot and had a grand time" said Crystle Gremaux.

Additionally, Denton FFA member Tarayn Lahr gave a welcoming address from the Montana Association of Business Professionals of America.  This was Tarayn's first official duty as the 2003-04 State President.

Trojan Tracksters Compete at First Meet

High School Team Results from the Central Montana Invite

Monday, April 7, 2003 --

Lewistown - The Denton Trojans had a great track meet as they kicked off their 2003 season at the Central Montana Invitational, Saturday April 5th, 2003 at Fergus High School.

The boys team earned 73 points and placed third overall. The girls team tallied 31 points for a sixth place finish.

The coaches were proud of this great group of kids and hope they improve on week-to-week basis.

Lewistown - The Denton Band and Choir went to the music festivals on Friday April 4. The music festival was held in Lewistown once again this year. Manny students are participating in this great experience. The Choir students sang Didn’t my lord deliver Daniel by Roger Emerson, and Danny Boy by Julie Knowles. The Choir students received twos from the judges for both of there songs. The Band students played Ol’ Glory March by James Swearingen and Stillmeadow Overture by Dennis O. Eveland. The band students received twos from the judges also. The band and choir earns money in the summer by doing concessions during the softball weekend.
